INTRO OF GRAMMAR
I.
Introduction of Grammar(English Language):
English
Grammar is the body of rules that describes the structure of expression
in the English
language. This include the structure of word, phrases, clauses and sentences.
There are historical, social, regional variation of English, divergences from
the grammar described here occur in some dialects of English.
There are certain differences in Grammar between
form of British English, American English and Australian English.
Generally These are same in words but have
pronunciation different.
The history of English Grammar begins late in the
sixteenth century with the ‘Pamphlet For
Grammar’ by William Bullokar.
The English language underwent extensive change in
the middle ages written old English of ad 1000 is similar in vocabulary and
grammar to other old Germanic language such as old high German and old
Norse(the northern family of Germanic language that are spoken in Scandinavia
and Ice land), and completely unintelligible to modern speakers, will the
modern language is already largely recognizable in written middle English of at
1400. The transformation was caused by two further waves of invasion:
The first by speaker of
the Scandinavian branch of the Germanic language family, who conquered and
colonized parts of Britain in the 8th and 9th century.
The second by the Normans in the 11th century, who spoke old Normans
and ultimately developed and English variety of this called Anglo Norman. A
large proportion of the modern English vocabulary comes directly from Anglo Norman.
Overall
it is said that English language is driven from German language as Hindi is
driven from Sanskrit.
Some Grammarian accept
that the founder of English language is Mike English who found and sat down it
on 17 July,731. He named it after himself.
Some grammarians are as
follows who gave a right direction to this subject by their true efforts:
Ø Edwin
Abbott
Ø P.C.
Wren
Ø Abbott
Alexander
Ø William
Bullokar
Ø Thomas
Dilworth
These were as writer
and grammarians who gave the true definition of grammar.
DEFINITION
OF GRAMMAR:Grammar is a science as
well as art which treats the nature of the word, sequence of sentences and its
types and procedure also.
In
other words; Grammar is the
structural foundation of our ability to express ourselves. The more we are
aware of how it works, the more we can monitor the meaning and effectiveness of
the way we and others use language.
It is called science
because science is the study of anything or subject in sequence, in order and
in organized way. This is why it is called science.
It is called art
because art is that part of human being which presents a true and skillful act
in a particular subject.
Therefore Grammar is
both science and art. It is science when it is learnt and it is art when it is
used in a right way for the good of someone.
According
to P.C. Wren; “Grammar is the
language of English. It provides treatment to the letter, words and sentences.”
Thus Grammar is the
study of the language of English through which the language of English can
perceive and comprehend easily and systematic way.
